Dr. Bhushan Punani, Executive director of Blind People's Association,the largest disability development organisation in the world. Dr Bhushan is an epitome of following one's passion whilst treading the unconventional path.
He was a PGDM student of IIMA (batch of 79) who had opted out of the conventional placement process to join a blind school. This had been termed as a leap in the dark back then by his director. But he was confident that he would take this challenge as a life long mission.He spoke about children who have been abandoned because they were born deaf and blind.He gave examples about certain disabled people like Bhavina, who initiated table tennis for the wheelchair people, Zakir,the finest DTP expert,who is paralysed in the lower limbs and Ranchhod who made a film= “listening to shadows” which won 6 international awards. He is blind. He stressed on how building up this organisation was no less than a challenge and how it included the usage of all his managerial concepts which he had learnt during his IIM days.The training personnel are from countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc and this association has international exposure. One of the few organisations were every voucher is available for public audit.
Dr Bhushan said:-
#1 Give them the life what they deserve like anybody else.
#2 If you have courage to believe, confidence to succeed and can Maintain the continuity of purpose- you would certainly achieve your goal.
